OK to Yell for Angels

You see, I'm in a battle, a war with the devil. He has an assignment to kill me.

Angels Sent to Serve (www.ChristiansUnite.com).

Brake! I shouted. BRAKE! I shouted louder. No time to pray. This time, my wife driving saw the sudden danger.

Ahead on the freeway was a crawling, old battered wood farm trailer camouflaging a big black pickup truck hauling it. No tail lights. I saw only a flick of red light from the truck through the trailer's wood grating.

My wife slammed on our brakes with a second to spare. I thrust forward in my seat-belt  We slowed just short of crashing through the trailer and the truck at highway speed. The white pickup behind us slammed on his brakes.

For the next miles, on Route 12 north of New Orleans, we thanked God and his Angels for saving us. How did I give credit to the Angels? Sometimes I see Angels. Sometimes I see the effects of their presence.

How did I notice just the one flick of light?

You see, I'm in a battle, a war with the devil. He has an assignment to kill me. Many times he's tried. He hates me. I have an assignment to stop his works. I have some tall warrior friends to help me, the Angels. Many times, they've protected me.

Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14 NKJV).

Angels of God and Warriors of the Lord,” I pray. “Servants of Adonai Sabaoth, protect my wife, our children, and our grandchildren (name-by-name) today, and me.”

I prayed just a few hours earlier at the start of our day's return travels.

At the start of this trip to visit two of our adult daughters and their families, just days earlier, I prayed the same faith prayer.

In the middle of the dark night, a black van at high speed cut us off from turning toward a toll booth approach on the complicated Sam Houston Toll-road. My wife, driving, amazingly veered to the left lane, avoiding him, barely seeing his threat coming at our right side. We missed the tollgate approach. Once again, the devil acted. The Angels saved our lives.

I'm expecting a bill for the tollgate fee in my mail. Now the devil doesn't just attack on the road, but these three times he did.

Some drivers leave themselves open to his evil inspiration.

Again, coming down a hill curve, where the speed reduced on the Florida Panhandle Freeway, a driver from behind ignored the speed limits and charged our rear bumper obnoxiously blowing his horn. He wanted to force us to move to the outside lane, but another car was right beside me.

Finally, I was able to move over. This van driver racing by in the left lane looked, at my glance, like the devil himself. He flashed on ahead as he dangerously executed an improper right exit and threatened other drivers ahead of him, even as he disappeared out of sight around the single exit lane.

It's OK to yell for the Angels.

GOD's Angels are with us

GOD's Angels protect us, warn us, and inform us.

Angels (ChristiansUnite.com)

The Mysterious Stranger

In Pakistan, after I had carelessly encountered a snake charmer's black cobra face to face with my camera and prayed to escape with my life, I stood up, safe. At that moment, a handsome Pakistani in his thirties stepped forward and spoke to me.
"Are you married, Sahib?"
"Am I married?  No!"
I wondered what he wanted.

"Do you have a photograph of your lady friend, right now?" he asked. So I reluctantly pulled out a wallet portrait.
"This girl is not the girl you will marry!" he stated.
"No, the girl you will marry has brown hair like this one, but she is taller. In fact, you have already met her. Where does this one live?"
"On Long Island, New York," I said.

"The girl you will marry does not live there," he said.  "She lives up, further north."
"My parents live in Maine." I tested him by giving leading information.
"No, she is not from Maine," he said. "Where have you just come from?"
 "Upstate New York."
"Yes!" he said, "she is there.
“You have already seen her. She lives there, way up, in Upstate New York, farther north. That is the woman you will marry, but not this one, Sahib.” I offered rupees to test him.

“No Sahib! Not rupees. I just wanted you to know."

I had no idea who this man was, or whether I should consider anything he said. He did not seem ominous.
I looked down at the snake charmer and raised my head again to look at the stranger. He wasn't there! He had vanished!

A year later, I met the girl he described in the place he foretold. He spoke a true word. She would, indeed, become my wife. But that's another story.

Angel in the Office

I temporarily worked in a quasi-government office where two employees for a whole year expressed a continual agenda toward me. To this day, I still have no idea as to why. I realized the problem was theirs, not mine.

They slandered me to the program's officers, but being a new employee I was never consulted by those in authority. For the final month, the atmosphere became very heavy. I surrendered myself to the hands of God whom I serve. Still I was not consulted. I prayed and waited.

One afternoon, while sitting at my desk, I could feel a presence. Suddenly, there was a flash of bright light in which stood an angel about nine feet tall. He spoke.

“Abba, Daddy God, wants you to know He is with you.”

And the angel vanished, leaving me with faith in his heavenly assurance. I was dismissed from the office to do other things for God. But not before I called for a state appeal, which exonerated me as being dismissed without just cause.

Angels in the Thunderstorm

Writing one of my articles for God, I heard a noisy thunderstorm approaching from the west. Out my window facing, I could see the dark black clouds approaching. Suddenly, as I typed on my computer, I felt the presence of two angels behind my left shoulder. One leaned toward my ear.

“Satan doesn't like what you are doing. He is bringing that thunderstorm upon you,” said one.
“He plans to throw a thunder bolt at you,” said the other.

I immediately thought of Jesus at rest in the boat during the storm on the Sea of Galilee.

But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" (Mark 4:40 NKJV).

I am going to keep on writing my article, I thought. In a direct hit, the thunder bolt like a bomb blast shook my house and somewhat stunned me.

Our phone lines and some equipment needed to be replaced. However, my wife felt it was time to switch to wireless, and so we upgraded to fast data service. The new equipment turned out to be a wonderful blessing in writing for God. Satan, you know, always overplays his hand.

Yes, the angels are with us.

How did Mary Pray?

In the Christmas Story, Mary shows us how to respond to God.

Annunciation by Carl Heinrich Block

Mary presented herself as a well liked young woman in her village, attractive, smart, wise. She has a great devotion to God. She's a tremendous caregiver and servant. She's gentle and appreciates gentleness in return. She's engaged to a worthy young carpenter.
Then her life changed. The Angel Gabriel came unexpectedly to speak with her.
v28 “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
Mary was troubled, the Angel reassured her.
v30 “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Being a virgin, she was most concerned by his words.

v34 “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”

Gabriel gently explained.
v35 “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. The Angel presented her with evidence of this Truth.
v36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”
Mary humbled herself before God and consented.

v38 “Behold the maidservant of the Lord!
Let it be to me according to your word.”

And the angel departed from her.
Mary traveled to visit her favored cousin Elizabeth who experienced a miraculous intervention and spoke through the gift of knowledge.
v41 And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said,

Blessed are you among women, and
blessed is the fruit of your womb!

v43 But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 45 Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”
Mary responded with her own great prophetic word, first humbling herself before God.

My soul magnifies the Lord,

v47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. 48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. 49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name.
With supernatural perception, seeing the significance of God's works for her nation, she glorified Him.
v50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly.
She could see that God in bringing the Messiah exalted the common man, the poor of Israel.
v53 He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty. 54 He has helped His servant Israel, In remembrance of His mercy, 55 As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever” (Luke 1:28-55 NKJV).
Mary spoke with unabashed sincerity, humbling herself and yielding to God. She believed and manifested her faith with obedience. She perceived the significance of this message of the Messiah to her nation, and she spoke wisdom through her heartfelt perception, glorifying God. Should we not follow her example in prayer?

Christmas Blessings to You!

Battle Tornadoes With the Angels

Through prayer, God protects our lives, even during the double trouble of twin tornadoes.

Joanna drove the street between the twin tornadoes! (NOAA Photo)

The neighborhood sirens sounded with gruesome wails. Tornadoes hit with sudden terror in the nation's Midwest. I certainly didn't expect to face a double-header. One pouring, rainy day, twin tornadoes dropped from the dark storm clouds easterly into the Tulsa streets.

The LORD is slow to anger and great in power;
the LORD will not leave the guilty unpunished.
His way is in the whirlwind and the storm,
the clouds are the dust of his feet” (Nahum 1:3 NIV).

My wife Mary, daughter Meg, and I scampered invited to our neighbors' underground shelter. Down through the gray metal hatch, we descended into the black hole, all soaked wet in the pouring rain. Finally underground, we felt safe.

Twin tornadoes split along
parallel streets.

We missed our teenage daughter, Joanna, and our little son, Daniel, out shopping. The three of us earnestly prayed for them. Tulsa is a city designed on a uniform street grid. The twin tornadoes split up along parallel routes. One headed east on 51st Street and the other headed east on 71st Street.

Driving in blinding rain, Joanna also prayed and listened to the radio announcements. By God's wonderful grace, she decided to drive home west on 61st Street. Ultimately, she passed between the oncoming twin tornadoes, one on each side of her.

There was a knock on our dripping metal hatch, and we opened it to find Joanna and Daniel quickly climbing down the wet ladder. When they found our house dark and empty, Daniel remembered the location of the neighbors' tornado shelter. Joanna found relief from the stress of her adventurous ride, broke down, and cried. The rest of us praised God for our children's safe deliverance from the twin threat.

This tornado formed around
our neighborhood!

It happened again! This time, the tornado formed right around our new neighborhood in West Tulsa. We found ourselves in the center of its rotation. Meg, Dan, and I formed a shelter under a mattress in the hallway where we could look out through the nearby bedroom windows and the sliding glass door.

We watched amazed as the thick rain flew horizontally in a circular motion past us, not toward the ground. The tall backyard trees actually bent double and touched their tops to the ground in the twister's high winds. The water mains broke in the street intersection at the front corner of the house. Flooding rose almost to the foundation along our small ground rise.

Daughter Meg and son Dan, and I prayed earnestly in the name of Jesus and commanded the tornado to leave. God gave us the grace of faith and confidence in his care. I was amazed the glass windows and especially the glass in the sliding door did not break. It was as if the Lord cupped his hand in protection over us.

"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear...” (1 John 4:18 NIV).

Some fifty minutes later, the tornado soared from the ground passing over the river and Central Tulsa, touching down on the east side of the city. More than 50,000 homes lost power and phone lines for up to three days.

I was most concerned for Mary who worked across town at the time. As it turned out, she did not directly encounter the tornado, other than the severe rainstorms. We were very glad when she arrived home safely a few hours later.

Angels battle this tornado!

One devastating F5 tornado hit the western region of Jefferson County and the suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama, on the evening of April 8, 1998. It traveled 30 miles on the ground and 32 people died. It badly damaged or destroyed 14 churches but spared all lives attending Wednesday evening services.

In this case, I listened to the national radio and television news broadcasts tell about two young girls huddled in the hallway at Open Door Church in Alabama. The girls claimed to have seen and heard angels shouting above the sound of the striking tornado.

The angels held the wall from collapsing on a class of children sheltered in the hallway as the giant tornado struck. Although most of the building was destroyed, the retaining wall saved the lives of the children, bearing out the girls' story.
"It was a God thing!" said reporting journalist, James Spann. The story flashed around the country.

A tape recorder caught the
frantic conversations.

A tape recorder run by an adult in the hallway as the tornado hit caught the frantic conversations of the two adolescent girls. They described the angels shouts to each other over the noise of the twister during their defensive efforts to hold the shaking wall.

Yes, the armies of the Hosts of the Lord save us even from the attack of the whirlwind. From our experiences with these tornadoes, I couldn't agree more.

Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don't you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid. Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4: 38-40 NIV).
The truth is, Jesus showed us how to calm the storm.

Angel Gabriel Greets Maiden Mary

Mary, a humble maid in Nazareth, is greeted by the Angel Gabriel to become the mother of Israel's long awaited Messiah.

When God Speaks by Bill Hunt (c) 2010.

The day the Angel Gabriel came, he overwhelmed Mary. His angelic presence filled her attention with divine delight.

She found herself face to face with an incredible spirit. He radiated divine favor, and his kindness seemed very calming. She found his voice mighty, beautiful, gentle, and clear. His words resonated through her whole womanly being.

Mary is a virgin before the Lord. His unexpected message perplexed her.

She could feel this powerful, pure anointing over her. She found his news of Elizabeth reassuring. This helped her to accept the angel's words. She answered him with consent that rings through the Ages.

The mother, of the promised Messiah! Mary's body, mind, heart, and spirit exploded with unspeakable joy. She thought immediately to travel to see her favored cousin Elizabeth with whom she could share her tremendous experience.

The Christmas story challenges us to find meaning as a matter of faith. By divine attribution, God chooses natural persons to undertake supernatural deeds. Those who reinterpret such accomplishments into fabricated legends diminish and miss the magnificence of the divine purpose.

Mary was a real person, a native Hebrew girl from a small town, Nazareth. Being a devout girl, she likely turned in prayer as she helped her parents through daily tasks around the home.

As a young woman, her parents engaged her to wed Joseph, the village carpenter, a godly, good, and gentle man. The young couple likely exchanged smiles and conversations when he came near. The point is, Joseph and Mary were real people God chose for an unusual mission.

Mary thought of Joseph. What would he think? She knew her trust in God must be her source of strength.

Black Cobra and a Mysterious Angel

Miracle Witness
In this true story of a cobra and a mysterious angel, God saves me from a venomous death-bite and delivers a surprising message about my future wife.

SNAKE CHARMER AND BLACK COBRA
Photo by Bill Hunt (c) 2010
East meets West. There's no more strange a day. On my adventurous arrival in Pakistan, I settled my bag into a temporary stay at the white-walled hostel, and headed right into the sun-hot streets to see what I could see.

From a dirt mound nearby on the outskirts of the City of Karachi, I sat down and watched the activities of a desert nomad encampment of Bedouins. This was an intriguing scene right out of the Bible.

The tribesmen, camels, donkeys, sheep, dogs, brown cloth tents, campfires, and shade overhangs were a sight that reminded me of Jacob and the twelve patriarchs.

Along the outer road, I came upon three snake charmers stationed at the side of the road. Being an avid photographer, I squatted down with my movie camera near one snake charmer to get vivid pictures of the snake.

These were not the giant king cobras, but the black cobras, hooded cousins, considered one of the most deadly venomous snakes on earth. They can paralyze and kill a full-grown man within fifteen to thirty minutes.

With my camera, I moved in very, very close to the cobra swaying from the basket and the charmer with his wood flute. The snake abruptly turned his black, sinister hood toward me, eye-to-eye.

Ooh!”

The small group of Pakistanis around me distinctly groaned. I suddenly knew my assumption of safety mistaken.

Face to face, the snake waved, dangerously excited at my presence. He was set to give me a venomous death-bite.

In emergency prayer mode, I struggled to crawl back very slowly and smoothly not to startle the snake to strike.

I backed on my hands and feet right through my now very serious case of double-layered goose bumps.

The snake charmer capped the cobra back into the red straw basket. I noticed he, too, was sweating and trembling.

"Thank you, Jesus," I said as I stood up relieved, "for delivering me from that snake -- and death."

The Mysterious Stranger

At that moment, a handsome Pakistani in his thirties, spoke.

"Are you married, Sahib?"

"Am I married? No!"

I wondered what he wanted.

"Do you have a picture of your lady friend, right now?" he asked.

You have already seen her. She lives there, way up, in Upstate New York, farther north. That is the woman you will marry, but not this one, Sahib.”

I offered him rupees to test him.

No Sahib! Not rupees. I just wanted to tell you."

I had no idea who this man was, or whether I should consider anything he said. He did not seem ominous.

I looked down at the snake charmer and raised my head again to look at the stranger.

He wasn't there!

I turned to look for his face in the crowd of bystanders. He had vanished! There was no one like him in sight along the open road.

Was he from God? Was he an angel?

Puzzled, a stranger in a strange land, I wasn't sure how to judge what had just happened.

A year later, I met the girl he described in the place he foretold. He spoke a true word. She would, indeed, become my wife. But that's another story.

Our lives are meant to walk with God.
