Jesus Commands Healing

Jesus physically heals through the ministry of his people, even a brain tumor.

Jesus Also Commands His Disciples to Heal.

(Unknown Illustrator of Lillie A. Faris's Standard Bible Story Readers, 1925-28.)

Healing momentum burst forth when Mary, my wife, and other church members attended a healing conference presented by Charles and Frances Hunter. Over the years, we together experienced the marvelous ministries of several evangelists. In this case, an entire group from our little church in Central Florida attended the conference and came back beautifully primed to pray for healing.

Mary enjoyed the breakaway experience, and we were accustomed to working together in ministry. We prayed together as husband and wife when the team returned to minister in the church that coming Sunday morning.

Agnes Sanford called this anointing,
"The Healing Light."

A suffering woman with a brain tumor whom the doctor initially diagnosed as ready for surgery asked us to pray for her. The anointing overpowered her and she fell safely to the floor. Power flowed in an amazing, direct beam from the hand held above the woman's head to her brain as she lay on the church's blue carpet. Her doctor found no brain tumor remaining that week when she returned for her appointment.

It's not always necessary to touch a person when God's healing power is flowing. People can then see that Jesus is the one who is healing. Otherwise, it is important to touch people very lightly so you don't appear to use human force.

Let God's power be God's power,
not man's.

Surprisingly, the woman was additionally healed of arm, leg, and hip difficulties. Her legs readjusted through further prayer to their correct position. In a restaurant later that evening as she was seated, she discovered her tail bone was healed. Previously, it normally caused her discomfort, but now it did not!

Jesus is a carpenter who used tools to fashion and polish beautiful furniture. Did you ever see the tools try to claim credit for the carpenter's creation? Man speaks the word, but God performs the healing. Give the Glory to God!

The primary ingredient of healing is the sweet anointing presence of the Holy Spirit. He glides in on the Word spoken and the people's worship to cause the healing power of Jesus. A humble church body with living faith and expressive love will experience more of the healing ministries than a church body bound in religious disbelief or lukewarm apathy. Jesus commanded healing.

As you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons (Matt. 10:7-8 NKJ).

Freely you have received,
freely give.”

Healing is so much God's work that we must listen for the invitation of God or the invitation of the person suffering. Yes, God responds when the humble, themselves, ask for help. The minister of healing must keep his ear attuned to both God and man through compassionate love. Often, the more impossible the situation, the more likely God will act.

The pastor must also be willing
to protect his flock.

The Holy Spirit may pour forth a wondrous revival of the healing gifts on a church. Sometimes, jealous members will attempt to squelch the move of the Spirit. But the healing love of Jesus works through his humble disciples.

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father. And whatever you ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14: 12-13 NKJ).

Mary also approached an elderly man with a foot problem. She told him to take off his special, oversized shoe. On his big toe was a hard round growth. She touched her index finger to the marble-sized growth, as we watched.

"I prayed over the growth; it went down like a balloon popping! It was no more," she said. "I was astonished to actually feel it go."

The man immediately bought himself a new pair of shoes! Jesus heals through the ministry of his people.

How to Start a Jesus Prayer Support Group

SPECIAL GUIDE: In a Jesus Prayer Support Group, members can grow wonderfully in the Love of God and of their fellow man.

"Ministering God's Love in Prayer" (c. by Bill Hunt).

For where two or three come together
in my name, there am I with them”
(Matt 18:20 NIV).

Join a prayer group to meet Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life, to enter salvation, to grow as a Christian, to find support for your Life in the Body of Christ. As well, to turn from sin to God, to seek healing from the pains you have suffered, to grow in deeper love with God and man, to enter the fruits, gifts, and ministries of the Holy Spirit.

Join with two or three others.

Don't worry about numbers. Let God take care of the numbers. Meet weekly at the agreed time and in the same place. Never cancel a meeting unless absolutely necessary. One or two persons, depending on the makeup of the group, can be recognized as servant-leaders indicated by God.

In the normal meeting, first turn your attention to worship God exclusively, then share your personal concerns in prayer. Minister healing in small groups when necessary. A leader can briefly teach a lesson on a chapter in scripture, and the group can then discuss it. In all things, love each other with the Love of Christ.

Imagine what it is like to sit and talk with Jesus.

Share your concerns with the God of the Universe. He will cover you with his tremendous blessings of grace and with his healing love. Always seek to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe” (Eph 1:18-19 NIV).

Actively reach out in witness to others, as well. Bring them into your group. When your group grows to twelve persons, determine a leader and divide the group.

Follow Biblical teachings in all things.

Each person can have one vote. Seek the mind of God in all matters. To do so, many groups find it valuable to wait for a consensus agreement rather than a majority vote.

Members of the prayer group can commit themselves to ardently walking in the Love of Jesus and to daily personal prayer and scripture reading. Allow for mistakes and failures. When failures come, exercise repentance and forgiveness as keys to relationship in both private or community life. This is most important.

Members of the group can encourage attendance with a Bible believing church, if available, one that expresses the manifestations of the Holy Spirit as in the New Testament. Members will likely adhere to different churches and serve as salt, light, and yeast in the world.

Pray Against a Hurricane

How far does faith go? Jesus calmed the storm and berated the Apostles for not doing so.

"When Foreboding Dark Skies Threaten"

On the Florida coast one afternoon, Mary and I heard the hotel announcement warning that Hurricane Hugo was about to make landfall in Daytona Beach, just outside. We hurried right down from our room to the spacious sandy beach and faced the ocean waves.

The storm presented a huge, ugly wall of ominous dark and boiling clouds. I was amazed to see how wall-like it was, a gigantic black formation rising high into the heavens before us.

"I was so happy to go along with you in this conference," said Mary. "Our days were planned and we had reliable baby sitters. This oncoming hurricane was threatening to shut down my rare vacation. And I didn't like that!”

In those days, the Lord was teaching us the power of the spoken word in faith. Of speaking to the mountain and not to doubt in our hearts."

"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him” (Mark 11:22-23 NIV).

Mary and I prayed out loud with all our hearts, shouting into the winds with our arms raised in prayer. We could barely hear our own voices. In the name of Jesus, we commanded the storm to stop. Mary suddenly said, "God wants us to send this hurricane elsewhere."

"Yes," I said. "That's what he just told me in my spirit."

I remembered Jonah's reluctance to prophesy against Nineveh, as I gazed into the huge gray breakers violently rolling a few feet away in front of us.

The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head” (Jonah 2:5).

The meteorological reports showed Hurricane Hugo stopped its westerly track on the brink of landfall at Daytona Beach, turned north off the Atlantic coast, and finally made landfall, cutting a direct swath from the Atlantic shore direct to the inland city of Charlotte, North Carolina.

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father” (John 14:12 NIV).

The words of Jesus are true, and they are spoken to all his disciples.

Resurrection from a Coma!

God performs a wonderful miracle to raise a motorcyclist from a death gripping coma.

"Jesus Raises the Dead Son of the Widow of Nain" (Unknown Artist).

"The doctor said he has a ten percent chance of living, and if he does, he'll be just a vegetable," the blond waitress cried. One night in a motel restaurant, I overheard a young blond waitress explaining to her girl friend that her brother was now lying in the hospital in a serious coma from a horrible motorcycle accident.

The Holy Spirit, pressing in my spirit, would not leave me alone. I walked over to her.

"Did I hear you right? Would you like me to go to the hospital with you and pray for your brother?" Although not a church going family, the young waitress called her parents and arranged for them and another brother to meet us in the intensive care unit at Monroe Regional Hospital in Ocala, Florida.

The patient lay in a serious coma with blood visibly clotted all through his bandaged head and shoulder. A car driven by an elderly lady collided with him and threw him from his motorcycle a distance to the asphalt pavement.

"He has a ten percent chance of living, and if he does, he'll just be a vegetable." The nurse supervisor repeated the doctor's prognosis. To me it was a demand for God's healing power.

The family and I joined hands around his bed, and each in turn prayed vocally from the heart. Then, I quietly commanded the healing. From around the room, the nurses attending other patients stopped to watch curiously.

Be healed in the name of Jesus. Be healed by his precious blood which he sacrificed that our sins be forgiven and our infirmities healed!”

As we prayed, a strange and marvelous supernatural heat came down over the young man and over each one of us. It was a loving heat; it was a radiant heat. We all knew God was doing his work. Each of us felt the beautiful heat. The family smiled and they began to softly sing "Amazing Grace."

Two weeks later, when I saw her again, the waitress reported to me at the restaurant, her brother was out of bed in ten days and transferred to a recovery ward. For awhile, he only suffered a slight slur to his speech, left from the coma. I heard months later even his speech slur disappeared.

High Speed Train to Somewhere

High Speed Train” gives a choice in life. Each passenger is free to purchase his or her own ticket. But oh, what a choice! More than 150,000 people face death each day.

"Each passenger is free to purchase his or her own ticket."

There’s a high speed train to somewhere.
And a high speed train to nowhere.
And the ticket paid so costly
can’t beat the ticket Free.

Cause the working world’s forsaken,
but the gift is given clear.
For the flesh is overtaken,
and the real price is dear.

The conductor on one side is pale.
His face frowns in the mist.
The other one is smiling, a
fresh grin along the way.

Yes, there’s a high speed train to somewhere,
and a high speed train to nowhere.
One conductor’s doom and gloom.
The other looks so right!
One ticket’s very costly.
The other’s free on sight.

That conductor hands the greetings!
He’s paid for every friend.
All the world’s invited!
But few have turned to him.
To doubt his truth are thoughts
that bind—
Most folks just wait, no life in line.

One train is overcrowded,
standing room door to door,
swaying on the iron rails,
it’s rocking more and more.

The second is streamlined spacious
with a gourmet dining car.
There’s sleeping berths a plenty,
the train is going far.

There’s a high speed train to somewhere,
and a high speed train to nowhere.
There’s a ticket freely given
on the railroad car through life.
Too many pass it by with
hearts cased in strife.

It’s time to stop, to look, to listen!
It’s time to hear the Bell.
There’s a high speed train to Heaven.
And a high speed train to Hell!

Miracle Lightning Strike!

God's ways are wondrous: witness to a foreign visitor, protected in a lightning strike, and a new baby prophesied.

God Protects even from a Lightning Strike!

Can you witness to someone who speaks another language? Dark haired and dark eyed, this striking uniformed woman entered the crowded gift shop in Central Florida. The Hebrew on her uniform told me she was a traveling Israeli Army officer. An elderly American couple accompanied her. When I greeted the strangers by the impulse of the Holy Spirit, the elderly Christian woman explained she personally never took the opportunity to witness Christ to her Hebrew friend. They met her in Israel.

I saw this as a divine appointment from the Lord. Since, the officer did not speak English, I witnessed to her in the only words of Hebrew I knew. "Baruch a shem Adonoi. Yeshua ha Meshiah." "Blessed be the name of the Lord God. Jesus the Messiah."

I showed her a gold Star of David
I wore around my neck.

At this, the pretty officer beamed a big smile and gave me a nice hug. Her Christian lady friend now pulled a Hebrew New Testament out of her purse and handed it to me. The officer, not a Christian, autographed the book in Hebrew. "Next year in Jerusalem!" she wrote. It is the Israeli war cry.

My family and I had moved to Central Florida to Marion County. I found work in public relations, which helped me to familiarize with the area and the people. As a family, we also worked together to deliver newspapers by car, taking turns. Monica rode with her mother to throw newspapers, or Brian rode with his dad. It was actually good family time.

Early one morning in the dark, a horrible rainstorm with strong crashes of thunder and flashes of lightning poured down on us. To deliver newspapers at a large apartment complex on our route, I pulled the station wagon in to a parking place under a big, spreading oak tree.

Immediately, the Spirit impressed me
strongly in my heart to move the car!

The warning came a second time. I remembered how I had come to suffer two weeks of poison oak all over my face once in the past when I did not heed such a spiritual warning. So, I obeyed. I backed the car out and parked in another space up the line. Flashes of lightning illuminated the scene.

I delivered newspapers on foot around the twenty-one apartments and then returned to the parking lot. There, in the parking space I vacated now lay half of the huge spreading oak tree. A lightning strike split the big tree and knocked it down! If I had remained parked there, my car would have been crushed and Brian injured. For the rest of the newspaper run, my son and I praised God together for the saving miracle.

The pregnancy of our last baby took Mary quite by surprise, or maybe I should say more, by shock. "We just weren't established!" said Mary. "I had to work, and it seemed like it must be the wrong time for a baby. We were still new to Florida. A baby was the furthest thing from my mind. I really felt sick during my early pregnancy.”

I was five or six months along by the time we moved to Ocala. We wanted trees and grass, something that was more familiar to us,” said Mary. We moved to Silver Springs Woods in the very green Ocala National Forest. Mary had not yet seen a doctor.

"The baby you are carrying is a boy,
and his name is Daniel,"

In our new church there was a young couple who invited us for dinner. During prayer, this young woman suddenly prophesied a sign from God, that what was happening to us was truly his hand. "The baby you are carrying is a boy, and his name is Daniel," she said. “The name Daniel means God has judged."

Later, the weather was very hot and Mary was very uncomfortable wondering what day the baby would come. Three weeks before the birth, Dad prophesied the baby would be born on October 20th. This gave Mary comfort. It turned out to be a Saturday morning at Monroe Regional Hospital. Daniel was born soon after noontime following just an hour and a half of labor. He's been a servant of the Lord, ever since. God has his hands on the daily lives of men.

Easter Sunrise Service on the Beach

For an Easter Sunrise Service, a dozen ministers from different denominations gathered on a sandy Florida beach, surprised by a growing crowd of two thousand people and the anointing visit of the Holy Spirit.

"He Has Risen!" (Artist Unknown).

The silver-white ball of rising sun appeared through an overcast haze above the panoramic ocean expanse. It was an Easter Sunday sunrise I'll never forget. As I stood to the podium, I noticed beach people in bathing suits gather, now about 200. They seemed a little fidgety. I assured them it was all right to attend in bathing suits and bikinis. After all, it was a Florida beach.

As I started to preach, a strong wind began to blow.

I found I could not open my sermon outline sheets or even turn the pages of my Bible. Everything I planned disappeared in a few moments.

The wind is so strong,” I said, “I'm going to forget my planned sermon notes and speak to you from my heart. But there is one scripture I want to share with you.” The gusty wind blew ever stronger. I fought with the flapping pages of my Bible. At last I found the verse.

Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live' ” (John 11:25 NKJ).

As I closed my windy Bible, I noticed the gathering attendees standing in a semi-circle around our group of a dozen interfaith ministers. The numbers quickly grew to about 600, standing or sitting on the sand listening attentively. Where were they all coming from, I wondered.

I told them of Jesus' prayer in the garden,

the sweat of blood dripping to the ground, his pleading three times for the apostles to join him.

And He said, 'Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will' ” (Mark 14:36 NKJ).

The ministerium now noticed the audience on the beach had grown significantly. They counted approximately 2200 to 2500 guests. A most unusual crowd, but not for the beach. About a third were women in colorful bikinis, a third men in bathing suites, and another third casually dressed. All listened attentively.

Jesus was brought illegally for judgment during the night hours before Annas, Caiaphas, and the Sanhedrin. He was betrayed three times by Peter who broke down and cried from remorse when the rooster crowed. Judas, realizing more was occurring than perhaps he planned, despaired and hung himself.

Jesus was taken before Pilate for the sentence of death.

Then Pilate asked Him, 'Are You the King of the Jews?”
He answered and said to him, 'It is as you say' ” (Mark 15:2 NKJ).

Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall called Praetorium, and they called together the whole garrison. And they clothed Him with purple; and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and began to salute Him, 'Hail, King of the Jews!' Then they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him. And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him” (Mark 15:16-20 NKJ).

The soldiers horribly abused Jesus on the cross. After three hours he died.

Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?' which is translated, 'My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me'?” (Mark 15:33-35 NKJ).

Resurrection Morning!

On that first Easter morning, the women came and found the tomb empty and encountered the two angels. Peter and John entered the tomb to be sure. Mary Magdalene met Jesus outside, thinking he was the gardener. Jesus walked and talked the wonderful conversation with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.

I concluded with the story of Jesus meeting the apostles and Jesus encountering Thomas in the upper room. I told of how Jesus later healed the denying Peter on the beach with three love affirmations.

He said to him the third time, 'Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?' Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, 'Do you love Me?' And he said to Him, 'Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.' Jesus said to him, 'Feed My sheep' ” (John 21:17 NKJ).

Bill, Look!”

One of the ministers came up to help me with an altar call, and grabbed my arm.

People standing on the beach sand were crying all through the audience. The Holy Spirit favored us with a mass anointing. I turned around to ask for help from the ministers and saw they were crying too, from the humble Alliance pastor to the Baptist Reverend Doctor. They were all wiping away tears.

People came forward, lines formed, and each of the ministers present walked down and began laying hands on men and women in prayer lines. We were Methodists, Alliance, Lutherans, Baptists, Pentecostals, and other faiths. God's Apostles ministered together to a crowd of two thousand people standing in the sand on an Easter morning windy beach.
